Creslane School Garden
The Creslane School Garden is a showcase school garden that brings together students of all ages, families, community organizations, district staff and experts in an outdoor learning laboratory.
The CSG program sustains an organic garden and landscape. Students engage in hands on lessons that connect principles in gardening, food and nutrition, academics, and ecology. The program is linked to academic content standards across all subject areas. It inspires personal and social responsibility in students and provides an example to other schools.
As a learning laboratory the CSG provides:
The CSG currently includes: an outdoor classroom, vegetable gardens, a camas nursery bed, berry plants, two examples of water catchment systems, a tool shed with a “live roof,” a vermi-composting system (worm bin), a traditional composting system and a food stand.
In the future we plan to include: a native plant garden, and orchard with fruit trees, an additional larger water catchment system, a rain garden to manage on site rain water, a geography garden, and much more.
The Creslane School Garden has transformed the front of both Creslane Elementary School and the Creswell Public School District offices in to an outdoor learning laboratory for the benefit of the students and staff of the district and community members of Creswell.
